Hi,
I have a few divx videos and would like to burn them to DVD. At only about 20 minutes long, they are captured at high-quality; about 125-150MB. I would like to get, at minimum, 3 of these 'episodes' per disc. Unfortunately my problem now is that 3 is just slightly out of the size range I need for a DVD+R.
By the way: I also have some larger video (divx & xvid) files that I would like to "shrink," in order to pack more video onto a single DVD....
anyways...
Without trimming my videos, is there anyway I could make these epsiodes fit? The more episodes per disc, the better but *maintaining and keeping quailty* is also important to me. Any help or suggestions?
Im planning on using either MyDVD (version 5) or Ulead MovieFactory to burn the DVD. I also have WinAVI and VirtualDubMod to work with.

Hello,
You can reencode using a bitrate calculator to determine the bitrate for the fit.

The quality will dip slightly depending on how much you need to squeeze on the disc. The lower the bitrate the lower the quality, the smaller the file size.

ok thanks. I went there but am confused. Where it says type, if i select Divx, it only allows me to choose the size of the CD (not the DVD that it will eventually end up on). Do I just want the CD size at 700 MB? I thought I wanted the option for DVD instead

Hello,
Ok you could try working backwords. What is the bitrate/lenght of the original source??? Use that to determine your new bitrate. It SHOULD be lower than the bitrate of your current divx file. (The simplest, cleanest way would be to reencode from the original file using the smaller bitrate). But if you want reencode the current divx file using the new lower bitrate.

You're problem has nothing to do with the size of your AVI files. It appears you want to create a movie DVD. To do that, the files must be converted to MPEG 2 format. You need to specify a lower bitrate in the software that's doing that conversion.
In Ulead DVD Movie Factory click on the little check mark in the lower left corner. From there change the MPEG settings. The lower the bitrate, the more time you'll be able to put on a DVD. -
junkmalle,
that actually seems like it'll work. let me convert the video to mpeg and ill let ya know.
Thanks, appreicate it -
Ah seems you have a solution for what you really wanted..
But, to answer the subject line question, the answer is a definite "YES"!!!!
For $10 I can shrink any video to a single bit, guaranteed! Of course you may not like what it looks like on playback, but that's the answer for a different question..
