This may seem like a stupid question but I hesitate to assume that I've now read every forum post/faq/tutorial/article on the subject.
My quandary: I was sold an ADS DVD XPress external capture device by a CompUSA salesman who knew about the same as I did at the time. It can not capture analogue to AVI.
The company confirms this.
Is there such a thing as a software program that enables such a device to capture analogue video to AVI files???
My goal is being able to do my video editing from AVI format files, not MPEG 2.
Thanks for any advice.

Does your capture device have such connection ? If YES, then you should be able to capture analog video.
