Hey Folks,
I'm new to this DVD stuff and require some assistance, if you would. I have a LITE-ON DVD+R burner (LDW-4015) that intermittantly trashes DVD+RW disks. By that I mean the software (Nero 6 and Ulead DVD Workshop) come up with an error, after which the disc becomes unusable. The disc won't be seen in that drive or any other drive. Sometimes the drive spins and spins, never finding the disc, and sometime it stops like it has found the disc, but the software (Nero) comes up saying no media when trying to reformat the DVD+RW in question (whether on that drive or another drive I have in another machine). Also, these are NEW discs. Memorex and Sony. It's happening more and more often.
It seems to me that the drive may be the culprit. The big question though, is there any way to save these discs. Make them usable again? I have six such discs now. They are new, just out of the case, and at this time unusable.
Thanks....Bobby

you could maybe put them out in the sun for a day -- sometimes works ..
dvd-r's have got so cheap -- re-writables not so used now ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I had the same experience with an Aopen 4x +RW drive - had it for 7 months, no problems and then all of a sudden, 2 unreadable and unuseable +RW's. I got a new drive and have had no problems for 5 months.
I couldn't salvage the trashed +RW's, even with the new writer. -
Some people have tried using DVDinfopro to do a full format. I just use the trash can.

My old Sony drive did the same thing to a couple disks. Then it started trashing everything. Turned out the drive was a typical Sony- worked okay for about 10 months and then quit working.

I have never been able to reuse any of the 50 Memorex DVD+RWs I bought quite a while back with either my lite-on 811S, 832SOHO or my POS Artec. They seem to be one shot wonders. No combination of Erase/Format Quick/Full with Nero or DVDINFOPRO seem to work for me.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
I did try DVDinfoPRO, but the drive(s) won't see the discs. So the software thinks the drive is empty and won't attempt a format. I had heard about the sun thing. Guess that's worth a shot before I toss them. Yep, it may be time to replace the drive.
Thanks All
