  1. I'm new to this but have a bit of a background in video editing.

Anyway, I'll start by saying that I'm using Roxio Easy DVD creator because that is the software that came with my drive. If the answer to my problems is "Roxio s--ks" then I am not against getting something else. I'm only looking to edit some VHS and 8mm and put it on DVD, not win a best picture Oscar.

So I used my WinTV-FM (model 401) card to capture a rather large .avi file (from VHS) with the WinTV2000 software.. If I drag this file over to the Roxio software it warns me that it might not play on my TV (which is the ultimate goal). I can edit it and so forth, but I have to wonder about whether or not it will play in a stand alone DVD player.

I tried capturing video with the Roxio software and, although I can watch the input from the card through the Roxio software, when I try to capture it Roxio says it doesn't recognize the output.

Lastly, I used TMGenc to convert a small portion of my large .avi to MPEG-2. I tested the file in Windows Media Player and it works. I dragged it into the Roxio software it goes in without any compatibility warnings. However, when I try to preview it there is an "error opening movie."

I seems like I get denied at every turn. I'd appreciate it if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong and/or give me suggestions on how to do it right.

    Thanks.

    Dwayne

    Hello,

    Here's a list of guides for avi-dvd:

    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?tools=&madeby=&formatconversionselect=AVI+to+DVD&h...or+List+Guides

That would be a good place to start.

You may also want to use tmpgenc and load the dvd template. Convert it to mpeg and then load that into roxio. It might like it better than once it's in dvd mpeg standard.

  4. Yup, I also got Roxio with my Burner... Every file I plopped into their program it said "It may not work"

Plus, it wanted to re-encode any DVD compliant MPEG files as well. I bailed and looked at ULead DVD Movie Factory. I took my compiant MPEG's and created nice menues. It was not the best at converting raw AVI's though. Try TMPGENC for conversion and then anothre app for authoring
