  1. Okay so I have a movie here that's 16:9 and I want to make it to a DVD for a 4:3 t.v. however it should have a black mask on the top as so on the bottom but when i'm encoding it with TMPGEnc it dosen't have the black masks, I'm trying to make it so it's not soooo squished up on the 4:3 t.v. Is their anyway I can fix this problem? Encoding it smaller won't help cause it just squshes things up. I'll be going to school pretty soon but if you reply I'll get back to you later on today.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hello,

If you just select "keep aspect ratio" it will keep the black bars without distorting it.

  3. Okay thanks, but when I burn it onto a DVD will it not be so squished up and it'll be like perfect on a 4:3 t.v.?

Also what keep aspect ratio shoud it be? ( No margin, Full screen or Full screen aspect ratio 2? )

And for the encoding of source aspect ratio what should it be if the AVI is orignally 16:9 and what i'm encoding is 16:9 but with black bars.

    Thnx,
    Steve

    Hello,

The result should be just like the regular widescreen dvds on any 4:3 tv - they should have the black bars but NOT squished.

    I would choose full screen.

    Hello,

Yep, keep it exactly as the original is and there won't be any distortion.

    Hello,

Big screen?? You do mean 4:3 bigscreen, the whole point of this thread correct?? If you do the "keep aspect ratio" and "source aspect ratio 16:9" you should have it look like an ordinary widescreen dvd - black bars but no distortion.

    Kevin

EDIT - Of course, the output will only look as good as the source. Assuming your avi looks good then yes your dvd should look just as good.
