  1. Hello,

    I have the following problem:

I have a DVDR which I cannot play because after it gets to the menu it stops playing. Therefor I ripped the DVD and all the VOB and IFO files are now on my PC. I can play the VOB files seperatly but I would like it also to play on my regular DVD player.

How can I repair this disc? Just renaming the VOB file to MPG won't work because TMPGenc DVD author cannot recognize the file.

I don't like to loose any video and audio quality.

Please let me know how to solve this.

    Thanks.
    Joost

The ifo files might be corrupt.

The ifo files are how you direct to other parts of the dvd.

    Did you use cheap media?

  3. If you do a direct copy, does it work or do you get the same error

  4. I get the same problem after 1 on 1 copy. I received this disc from someone else. It is a DVD-R which works fine on my PC but doesn't on my regular DVD player. Also when I copy it to DVD+R

it's a poorly authored DVD then

I've seen plenty of these when people ask me why it doesn't play in their player yet plays in the PC or mine when I try it

I very rarely burn DVD's myself but sometimes I do as I 'fix' the DVD's for them

basically you need to either looks at the IFO's and see what has been done to it and whether it's valid. Sometimes running a mock strip through IFOedit fixes it or sometimes it involves some manual editing by replacing missing VOB's. Does it import into DVDShrink?. If it does then export it and maybe DVDShrink will fix it. DVDRemake reads the structure of the DVD and tries to correct it also if it finds something out of place

this is probably another case of a fussy standdalone (is it a Sony?) not playing crappy authored DVD's

you say it stops after the menu and this is probably due to missing VOB's. You could try changing the commands for the play button to jump straight to the movie but I doubt that would work. I bet whoever made this DVD removed video that plays before the movie etc just by deleting the VOB's in other VTS and not updating the IFO's
