I am interested in people's experience of great free games on the net!

    My recomendations:-

    Doom95(with the JDoom port)
    Glaxium
    CapMan

I am talking freeware here, not cracked games that anyone can get if they wanna. I believe there are great freeware games out there, totally legal.

    Any suggestions?

(Demos can be accepted! - (if they're great) - (but no 50-million-MB downloads please!!!))

Please can people supply links to these great games?

I looked up Abuse but couldn't find a download link.

I am a bit retarded when it comes to downloading games - hence my post!

For example, is there free Doom levels you can download for free? etc...

I'm not a miser, I'm just entertaining myself while I save up to buy Doom3 and HalfLife2 etc etc...

PLUS: I am in love with the old Galaxian and Xevious etc...

    FREE GAMES!!! YEAH!!!

http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32/ There's 3 or 4 games available for this acade game emulator that are legal. It will play something like 2000 different games but you need to own the original machine to posess the rom images legally. :P

The original GTA and a few other games are available at www.rockstargames.com The quake2 demo comes to mind too that's only about 40mb. Any demo from around then should be pretty good and have a small download. How about Duke Nukem 3-D...... "No time to play with myself"

Ah yes Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 2... awesome games. Mecca Giant demo is a whopper too!!!

    But I am a bit of a virgin...ha ha...need some guidance...

I found FreeDoom but couldn't get through Level 1 whatsoever...Is it buggy?

Is there early Doom stuff available for free? (Legal, I mean). I'm pretty hopeless at installing, say, Duke Nukem 3D on my XP machine. It just doesn't wanna install... That DOS stuff kills me...

    Coalman...GTA...Yeah I'll look it up!

Thanks for all the tips, everyone!

Yes I downloaded Abuse - terrific game! I got as far as that big chamber where those helicopter things shoot giant flames at you...and snuff it every time!!! How the hell do you get outa that one???

How do you install DOS-based games on an XP system? I tried installing Duke Nukem 3D and Chex Quest, but it just freezes on the intro screen! I've never had much success with command-line stuff...

    Thanks.

Try right-clicking on the game exe select properties and set the compatibility mode in the compatibility tab.
