  1. Hello

I have a G4 dual 1GHz lots of Ram and HD

I put in the Pioneer 107 a while ago and finally updated the firmware to 1.18 from the french site, and its supposed top rip at 12 X.

Ive tried it but it seems to rip a 6 ,- 7 GB DVD in about 25 minutes.

that SEEMS to me to be the same speed with the original firmware.

am I wrong? do I need to so something else to get faster rips? or is this it?

    thanks Rotut

I have the same drive, and after installing that firmware, can now rip DVDs in about 5-6 minutes for single-layered, and 15-20 minutes for dual-layered discs. It took significantly longer before. Are you sure the firmware installed correctly? I used the 1.13 firmware, however, and haven't tried the 1.18 one yet.

DL disks rarely rip faster than 8x.

  4. Well WW,

I got the flasher if thats what its called from the french page, and then did what I was supposed to I think. it opened in termihnal I think. but thats sort of voo doo to me.

the firmware comes up in the apple profiler.

can I down load it again and try again? I don't seem to see the spped bump. let me know if a second trial will help but not harm the drives function.

    thanks rotut

Use a utility to determine the firmware version of your drive (I don't know of one for the Mac). Using the rip to determine if it worked is not reliable.

  6. isn't the Apple Profiler reliable to let me know the firmware of the 107?

should I re-flash? download from the french site again?

Does the profiler still say it is using the old firmware? Usually the burning software will list the firmware in use. I assume you have rebooted. Some firmware require a reboot. Anyway, I still think you will not see much of a read improvement for DL disks. You should see if there is a hacked firmware that will increase read speed, but I bet if there is, you still will not see much improvement.

  8. the profiler says its the new firmware.

as WW said he gets 5-6 min instead of 25 min for single layer.

Ill think about a reinstallation of the firmware after a few days to see if anyone knows if thats possible without screwing up what I hve now.

    I have of course rebooted.

You can install older firmware over the newer one if you want to test it. I'd suggest trying the 1.13 and then the 1.16 one, and see if they work any better for you.

  10. thanks WW

Ill try that later today and report. is it possible that the 1.18 I got off the french site that was labled the 12x rip was really the pioneer update that did not allow 12x?

Ill work on it later to day.

No idea. Maybe the fast ripping in previous versions caused some problems (though I haven't noticed any), and was throttled down to increase reliability. Let us know if the earlier firmwares boost the speed for you.

  12. thanks for the i9dea

I downloaded the 116 flasher from the french site4 and flashed.

    SysProfiler says 1.16

I ripped tieh MTR 2.0.1 a DVD with 5.78GB and it took 12 min.

my sys G4dual1gz lots of ram lots of HD

so there really is no reason to look for or use the 1.18 f;asher?

it did have two files in it (1.18) r7100007.118 and R7100107.118
was I supposed to choose one of these somehow?

    let me know rotut

It's possible you installed the wrong (official) 1.18 firmware, and that's why you saw the problem. You could try installing the other 1.18 firmware, and seeing if it still rips quickly.

  14. WW:

the folder that came from the french site once its expanded says 12xRip on the end of the file name.

    thats for the 1.18 file.

those numbers were two file in that folder. it didn't seem to say to pick one, but another patch site said you had to put the file in there folder relating to the rip you wanted.

if you think 1.16 with the speeds I mentioned is "fast" then Ill just stay here with 1.16

    do you get those times?

That's about the amount of time it takes to rip a smaller dual layered DVD for me. For a single layered one, it takes about 5-6 minutes, and a dual layered one about 12-20 minutes, all using MTR.
