Hey,i recently had to do a complete reinstall of my system which i've done many times before.I have a samsung dvd-rom sd-608 and a sony cd-rw crx-140e drive. Before my reinstall my drives were working perfectly, after i reinstalled although i can still play software discs and audio discs whenever i put in a dvd or vcd disc nothing happens.I have all the right codecs installed and when i reinstalled in the past everything worked fine. The drives came with my computor so i don't have any discs with drivers on for it or anything.I think i might have done something in bios but i tried resetting to default options and that didn't work.I did a hardware diagnostic on them and a virus check and they both came up as negative.I tried opening the dvd disks with win media player, power dvd and divx.I also tried going to start-run and then typed in d:\ and e:\ which are my drives but i got an error saying there is no disc in there!!Please help.

Have you got a Disney DVD laying around? If so stick it in the DVD drive and it should try to Auto Install the Crap Disney sticks on their disks for a software player. (I never used it, maybe it's decent?)
Anyway if that does get that far, I suppose let it install the player and see if that will play the movie. If the player installs but the DVD still don't play, then maybe you have something not installed this time like a Codec?
If everything works, then go check if Power DVD now works too, perhaps if a codec or whatever is missing the Disney player will install it, or even tell you what the problem is, like needing a new upgrade or patch for WIN.
If the disk does play but the screen is whacked, don't worry about it, Disney has CRAP protection system on at least some of thier DVDs like SNOW WHITE that won't play correctly on a PC, at least with a ATI Radeon card (Not even a capture card!) If it tries to play, good enough.
If not, go to your device manager, see if the drive is showing correctly, check setting there, and then if everything looks good but it still don't work, REMOVE device! Then reboot the system, Win should find it again and it might work the second time.
I never actually had such a problem myself, but that's where I would most likely start.
Good luck
