New Matrix DVD-R media any good?

I have the new Pioneer DVR-108 +/- 16x DL burner.

Anyway, I have been using the 4x Ritek media for a long time and been very happy with it, never had a coaster or problem. Looking on www.shop4tech.com where I always order media, I was looking at some of the other brands. Currently they have Matrix 1-8x media with white matte tops for 0.49/disc, cheaper than the Ritek, plus with the matte top. The description reads:

Anyone know about this media? Thoughts about the Matrix media? Should I pick this up?

I'd get in touch with the supplier and ask them for the lead-in data. If they're making claims like that but aren't prepared to tell you what manufacturer they came from, then it's probably a case of buyer beware.

If you do a search for matrix in the media guide to the left, you will see they have had a jaded past - often using media of a lower quality than these claims would suggest. They may have got their act together, however...

I am using the new Matrix in my Pioneer 108 with the 1.10 firmware. They top out at 12x and the burns are smooth and clean, with no playback issues in the 3 or so different DVD players I've tried them in.

I'd give them an unqualifed thumbs up after about 35 burns!

Edit: I should mention that I'm burning the silver matte 1-8x variety.

FWIW, I had to order another 100 and the silver matte 8x is $35.10 for 100 shipped with the 'bens10' coupon code.

Used up 100 of these so far. Bought 100 fo the 4x also along the way. Iv'e notice that every time I check the shop 4 tech websit the 8x disks are always cheaper than the week before. The 4x a month ago were .35 and the 8x were .75. Now the 8x are .39. Anyway, I did get a few that would not burn at the edges properly. They would have a dark semicircular spot at the edges about the size of a dime. I have beet burning these at 6x ever since without a problem. The 4x also burn at 6x without a problem.

Your link shows the LONGTEN media ID, which is not the 8x 'new formula' media code. The ones I received have a 'TYG01' ID.

FWIW, I didn't even have a 50% success rate with LONGTEN. Worst crap I ever tried.

I was given the media to review. I only know what I was told, that it was new Matrix, supposed to be better quality. That "Matrix" TYG01 is fake media from INFOSMART of HK. The real ID probably is LONGTEN or YIJHAN or something else from HK. If I was sent the wrong thing, then it was a wasted review.

Re. the matrix media. The longten id goes with the 4x media.The tygo1 id goes with the 8x disks. As an aside comment, the 4x @ half the price seem to burn better- but ever so slightly

I've used the new Gen Matrix discs for about ~110 different projects, much of them at 4.3 GB's and haven't noticed any problems whatsoever. They seem to be very good discs and of high quality. I haven't seen any of those burn issues either but i'll watch out for them when I order again to see if it affects the disc in any way. Never used the old Matrix discs people are talking about so couldn't venture to say how those were but these new gen ones are great.

I too have never had any problems with the new Matrix discs. They work great and are a real bargain for the price. The discs are very clean and the write side is excellent for my sharpiles. As far as the old Matrix, I also never used them, but I did get some longten discs a while back under the digital matrix name from meritline, they were total garbage, 80% of the discs wouldn't even burn properly.
