  1. Just installed it - haven't fired it up yet. It was $85 after an instant rebate and another $25 off with a mail-in. It claims to be a 2X16X4X16 and burns dual layer discs at 2.4X. It even has an interchangeable faceplate to match you black or tan case!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

  2. The NEC 3500 is only $8 more at NewEgg, probably worth the little bit more, love mine.

According to rumor, Staples will be selling an I/O Magic 16x Dual Layer burner for under $40 at the Black Friday sale.

Of course I bought a dvd burner at Staples' last Black Friday sale for $100 and that lasted about four months. Pretty much everything I've bought there has been junk. But I figure I'll give them one last try.

I'm going to pick up the burner and the 160GB HD (7,200 RPM) for $40.

I would definitely advise checking out the black friday ads on the net before buying any tech stuff.

    Just saw the Advertisement!

I/O Magic 16x Double Layer Dual Format DVD Drive

    $129.98 - $60 Instant Savings - $30 Easy Rebate = $39.94
(according to the ad) (according to my math = $39.98)

Not sure what an "Easy Rebate" entails, but if it has to do with mailing it in, then I'll just assume the price of $70, which is still a good price.

Oh yea, and they also have a 160GB HD for the same final price
    129.98 - 55 IS - 35 ER = 39.94 (39.98?)

  6. I/O magic drives can also be from BTC. I purchased one last year and it was a BTC drive.

  7. Quick update - I saw the Staples ad and it's the same drive I paid $60 for. I just updated the firmware (3X) and now my I/O Magic drive is a BenQ 1620 Pro!

I\O Magics can be BenQ's or BTC's depending on where (country) it says it's manufactured. You got lucky getting the BenQ though I've read they don't burn -R's as well as they burn +R's.

Just a quick piece of info: Officemax has the WD 200GB for $49.
Still a few bugs in the system...

Staples has a very good reputation for making their rebate process painless and reliable. I would guess this is what they are aluding to. Their rebates are the only ones I would consider in pricing.

Now you can submit most rebates online* – no clipping, no mailing, no hassles. Easy Rebates are available on products purchased in Staples® stores, through our catalog and online at Staples.com®.
