Using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to Backup Any DVD by steptoe

Am I doing something wrong? Or did Steptoe forget to mention the 4 hour encoding process? I followed the guide step by step.. First Decrypter was used to rip, then shrink to backup....Shrink loads up the movie files extremely quick. I set everything to "automatic" compression. After about 2 hours elapsed and Dvd Shrink completed analysing/transcoding, I'm not sure the lingo. I was counting down to completion with lots elation thinking it's time for burning, but then it goes into this "encoding" process that is excruciatingly slow, as I write, the countdown is at 3 and half hours to go. Is this process necessary? Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

  2. I'm sorry it took so long to answer, i couldn't decide which one of your posts to answer. (which you shouldn't do by the way)

My backups take about 15 minutes, but i don't usually do full backups. I'm not really concerned with the stuff noone ever watches.

Your backup time is apparently so long due to analyzing and shrinking. My backups are "Direct Stream Copy" most of the time.

Get rid of some of the crap. You'll have better speed and better quality.

  3. Well you could save some time by just using dvd shrink to do the job....
What are your computer specs and what else are you doing at the same time ???
    Not bothered by small problems...

Well, it contains over 6 thousand MB, even without the extra stuff, It doesn't make a dent. I would still have to compress it. So I decided to keep all the extras. I took a nap, and it's finished.

Can the human eye really tell the difference. Because I cannot. I'm extremely shocked at superb quality, my compressed back up looks the same. I think the mark is around 60%... If you're movie is compressed around here, then you'd have to have super eyes or be an expert to be able to tell. The trailers were compressed in the 50% and I can see the tiny artifacts here and there. So above 60 you're okay. I'm still amazed! Thank you!
