Dig enough and you can find horror stories with any major company. Independent surveys still rank apple either the highest or one of the highest as far as support satisfaction.
On the same note things are not what they used to be. Back many moons ago when I did support for compaq I remember helping some guy on a 4 year old machine change dipswitches on his server system board so he could install DOS on it.
I also remember another friend who did Apple support spending hours on the phone with a customer removing and installing hardware into her mac so that she could finsih an imporant report.
Out of warrany? Customer INSIDE the computer? No longer, sad really. The times of having to speak clearly and know what your doing in tech support are gone and will not likely ever be back. -
Having been a phone support tech, I can fully appreciate what you're saying. I risked getting in trouble several times because I had the nerve to say on the hone for over an hour helping a customer get his cable modem to work the way it was promised to work by AT&T Broadband. It's this strange hang-up of mine to like helping people that way....

Apple support SHOULD be better than any PC support because they're so limited in the amount of hardware and software available compared to PCs. Could be considered positive or negative depending on your point of view.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
This is an anchient post, but thought I would show some latest news......
Apple High in Customer Satisfaction
Apple Computer Inc. and Gateway Inc. recorded the largest improvements in customer satisfaction. With a score of 81, Apple's customers are the most satisfied of any other PC vendor measured in this index.
