i have some vob files on my system and need to reduce the size so i can burn onto 1dvd, i am using dvd shrink, when i load the file it starts to analyze the files but bout 30% through it i get an error, it then returns to the normal startin screen but with the preview playing in the bottom left corner. If i leave the compression section on 'no compression' i am told that the file is 6.854MB but if i select level 1 (5%) i am told that the file will be 436MB, so i leave it on no compression and start the back up when this reaches about 25/30% i get the same error as before,

this is the error i get,

DVD Shrink has encounted an error and cannot continue this operation

    invalid nv_pack: nv_vobu_ea

    The reason is unknown

can anyone please tell me what i wrong and how i can fix it?

I think you selected 5% instead of 95% It tried to squeeze it onto a CD-sized file set.

The error could be dust or smudges. I've gotten CRC errors when that happens.

My suggestion: leave the resizing set to automatic ...and clean the disc.

No matter. You can point DVD Shrink to a file set using the "Open Disc" screen.

  7. I may not 100% understand the "error" you get when it gets to 30% and then returns to the original state. I am looking at that and the comment of "some VOB files". If you ripped "movie onlY" items from dvddecrypter to your hard drive, that will probably happen. What I would do is re-rip your dvd and select ALL files and then use DVD shrink. That should do it.

Looked a little further down on the main videohelp page and came across this post. Read the first poster's comment about his issue and it sounds a lot like yours.

i downloaded the files, not ripped them, this is a wild guess but i may have discovered what the problem is please correct me if i am wrong but when a dvd is ripped each section/chapter/part of the dvd is made into 3 files .ifo .bup andd .vob for example:

    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_0.VOB

    is this correct?

    Yes.

My advice - review the AUP before proceeding with posts on this subject You haven't violated them yet, but you're ooooh so close right now.

  12. The structure is:

    AUDIO_TS
    VIDEO_TS

    The AUDIO_TS folder is normally empty. The VIDEO_TS folder will contain (ex) VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS_01.0.BUP, VTS_01.0.IFO, VTS_01.0.VOB, VTS_01.1.VOB VTS_01.2.VOB etc.

    The above is an example.

If you do not have this, you will need to build it. There are other options, but I usually just use TMPGENC DVD Author to build everything and then take that to DVD shrink it it is over 4.3 gig. Since all of my stuff that I use this for is stuff that I did for weddings, etc., I already know the size requirements.

The vob files contain the actual content, so no - you cannot recreate them from what you have.
    Read my blog here.

  15. guns1inger is 100% correct. The vob's are the actual video and audio. You have two choices (that I can see)

    1) reacquire the source
    2) use an application like TMPGENC DVD Author to produce what you do have

    Hi
I had the exact same error with DVD Shrink It turned out to be my Pioneer DVD Drive-slot type (model 120s if memory serves me right) wasn't reading the disc properly-hence error message.

There was an almost identical case on this forum approx. 9/10 months ago-that's where i found my info. and it turned out that over a dozen people all had the same issue and the common thread was the drive.
