  1. Heya fellas, first post here *wave* :]

Anyway, my psx2 is driving me crazy; it stops playback halfway through Galaxy Quest and Star Wars 2, and just chops/quits like mad all over Jason vs. Freddy. That last issue was particularly annoying, b/c my friend is featured in the extras on it (the guy flashing the crowd at Camp Hack n Slash) and I was all stoked to see it. :[

Is there some firmware upgrade or gizmo I can use to make the thing work better? FYI I bought it pretty quick after release, so I'm guessing it's an early version (how can I check?) and I have the DVD remote control installed.

    TIA!

P.S. I'm also shopping for a DVD-burner finally, and wondering if there's anything I need to know- features in the burner I should have, like bitsetting and whatnot- to ensure it burns stuff that will be compatible with my psx2. Please advise there also if ya know, thanks again!

  2. i had a ps2 that wouldnt play dvds properly with the remote installed(official sony dvd remote).
uninstalled the crap driver/firmware prog, and it was fine.
it may be the media, dirty or scratched,or dust inside the ps2.
you might actually be better off getting a cheap dvd player to use instead,as i had a lot of problems with mine to get it to work with +- media.
as for dvd burners, get a pioneer,be it a 107,or the new dual layer compatible 108,its 16speed dvd burning compliant too,so a full movie wont take more than a few minutes.
with the pioneer 107/108,theres not much need to mess about with bitsettings, ive never had to.
the best burning software out there IMO,is CopytoDVD,by VSO.many may disagree, but since using it ive never had a coaster,or had to mess about with software, bitsetting, etc.
just put the files in,select burn dvd movie, and its done.

Use a dvd/cd cleaner for your ps2 I had the same problem and it worked.
