Ok guys heres the problem . After i author a compliant dvd with dvdlab and test it on a certain stadalone dvd player it sometimes works , sometimes doesnt , somtimes freezes at a certain chapter point, sometimes pauses then keeps on going.
Details of the process -> start with ntsc xvid , convert with tmpgenc xpress to mpeg 2 and import to dvdlab. When i convert in tmpg, i use two-pass vbr encoding (vbr between 0000 - 8000) . When i author with dvdlab , i demultiplex with the stream, use "safe ntsc colours", have one still menu, and use framserving, then burn the dvd. Fter burning i verify the dvd as well
The certain dvd player is https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=DVD-V530&Submit=Search&Search=Search&c...=&orderby=Name
Im using dvd-r A grade princos to burn with. I think it might have something to do with the vbr having no minumum . Is there a tool that can read the the vbr at a certain point on a dvd-r?

Sounds like bad media to me. One way to check is to copy the dvd that doesn't play right directly to another blank disk (of better quality than the princos) and see what happens. If the copied disk plays ok, you are looking at a media problem. Over a year ago I bought a spindle of printco disks and ended up thrwing out about half. Nyah Levi

Sounds like a classic crap media problem. Princo is infamous as crap media.
You could try raising the min VBR bitrate to 1000 or 2000. Never had any effecton playback for me. You might also want to try authoring using UDF 1.02, or with a serious burning program like RecordNow Max, if you can still find it.
