tmpg and ffdshow

Welcome, little question:
why does the instalation ffdshow isn't enough to use tmpg?
I want convert avi(xvid) to vcd,
why do I have to install xvid-codec to work tmpg?

Personally I never use ffdshow with TMPGenc - I've experienced too many crashes. I uninstalled fddshow and used nics xvid decoder instead - never had any problems since.

I just want to know why all my avi(xvid) play with ffdshow, and tmpg doesn't work? (tmpg need only decoder for read these avi, this decoder is ffdshow)
