  1. Ok, just for kicks, I wanted to make a fun clip related video to work on some editing. I wanted to take (as small as 10 second) clips and edit them into a fun video. What is the best way to do this? Do I need to rip the entire dvd to get a 10 second clip for this project?
It is possible, but the point of the editing was to take lots of short clips and put them together into a funny story... ex. Me lifting weights, then me thinking and a dissolve into a clip from when Bruce turns into the HULK.
Can I accomplish this without ripping the enire movie? or will I be a ripping fiend for awhile? and either way, is the best way to edit it down be use YadeX then import into FCP or Imovie? Thanks to all for this odd request. Thanks (by the way for you who don't know me... yep, I'm a nerd) Peace!

You can use YadeX, which has a cell extraction function, allowing you to select exactly as much data as you want. Then, you'll need to convert it to DV format (the freeware Diva is able to do this, otherwise try DVDxDV). Then, you can import the DV files into iMovie or FCP.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  3. OOOhhh, I'm confused. I thought YadeX could export an .m2v and go directly into FCP or Imovie. Is the reason you can't do that because I'm choosing exactly what I want instead of the entire clip? or was I wrong to begin with about the .m2v? Thanks weas

FCP and iMovie can't edit MPEG2 video. You need to convert it to DV for that.
