If by preview you mean we can see them before they're released, they're already out. If by preview you mean we can try them out, only AntiSpam 2005 has that option.

They are already out?! Are you sure you aren't talking about beta, I was reading the section on Norton AntiVirus 2005 and it was suposed to ship out in October.

I stand corrected. My apologies. I could have sworn they'd already been released. Not sure what I was thinking.

Certainly a personal opinion (it is a "forum") and I know a lot of people use Norton products but I can't for the life of me understand why/how Norton got so popular. The software is overpriced (especially factoring in renewal fees), bloated, and conflict-prone. With free, low-overhead products like AdAware, Spybot, Kerio, AVG, etc. available, it's just a mystery to me.

I think that's from them getting a lot of big name companies to use it when it 1st came out. I know that ALL the military bases I worked at used NAV Corp Exclusivly. Everyone seemed to have have 10-12 years ago. I personally use Norton AV Corprate Edition. I don't really care for the home user programs other than Norton System works. I use that for speed disk.

I agree 808smokey, they are tied in with HP, Dell, etc. with their "trial" packages on new machines. Plus, as you mentioned, Peter Norton was considered a renegade "genius" years ago in the 386 / 486 days and has been able to secure a lot of corporate-level clients. I think that there are advantages for corporations staying with the Norton / McAfee camps and I would imagine the corporate versions must be better than the bloated home versions.

Witouht a doubt. I use Norton corprate and I never have to do anything. It justruns in the background and never had a virus get through. The home versions (I've only used NAV 2002) had all kinds of problems with not catching virus before they screwed up my computer.

I'm sure there's better AV software but, if it ain't broke don't fix it

Some people have problems with the home editions, some people dont. :P I know that the chain of Best Buys around here use Norton.

I thought that was the 2nd week of September for NAV 2005. They still have "2004" listed for the "Pro" version.

Anyway, I did NOT see anything downloadable. IIRC, NAV 2004 Pro was available for download last year around the 25th of August.

I have to agree with the part about the renewal fees. I have no idea why anyone would spend 20 bucks to renew a subscription when an upgrade is $30. Pretty goofy, IMHO.

Also IMHO, they've screwed the crap out of the license deal. I mean, $29.95 for one license and $89.95 for three? What the hell is that? Where's the discount?
