  1. I recently discovered that nearly all dts titles avaliable were not full bitrate and hence inferior.

I started sniffing round some forums and found out that dts on like 99% of dvds is only half what it could be. Every one was raving about these full dts titles. Only one problem, they are as rare as anything, the majority of them only being avaliable in Japan.

So I made it my mission to purchase the one which is meant to be the best, Armageddon in full glorious DTS. I had to get it after reading a reviewers comments on it.

"if you do not live in a detached house your neighbours will think it really IS the end of the world"

I stumbled across one on a forum on Friday after a big argument with you know who (these things are not cheap) I bought it.

Turned up yesterday, well **** me. I have never heard anything like it. Recently I have got really into my home cinema and this dvd is the crown jewel in my collection.

As soon as I got it I obviously copied it to the pc. Openend it in shrink, 1698mb DTS track !!!!, if any of you others are into your home cinema check these things out (if you can find them).

Bevereater, I am really jealous of you, as I said nearly all of these titles are only avaliable in Japan and in very small numbers. If you ever find any buy them and I will definitely sort you out. I can give you some titles if you want to make a few quid.

you should have kept your laser player, DTS tracks were all 1536kbps

It does make the difference between a ~500kbps DD track and a 700k DTS track seem a bit pointless. oh well, i'm sure next gen DVD will have enough space for proper DTS as standard...

  3. I know I should, I got made to sell it because it did not match with anything and was ugly (have a look in the mirror love).

I just picked up The Core in full dts also. I am so addicted to how things sound. The Core is a very mediocre movie that I already own on dvd but I have just spent £40 (and probably some import taxes to come) because it will sound really good.

just think, in another thirty years you won't be able to tell the difference between mono mp3 and full DTS:ES. scary, eh?

And here's me with just a stereo setup.

  5. Very true. Blade 2 that is a good ES title.

I find myself liking shite films just cause they sound good. Chapter 17 of the Haunting, what a pathetic film but just watching peoples faces when that sub goes so wonderfully low is incredible.

  7. A few which I know off (I am trying to find them all out)

    Armageddon
    Core
    Lake Placid
    Sleepy Hollow
    Jurassic Park 1-3 Superbit
    Terminator Ultimate
    Hero
    Ronin
    The Quick and the Dead
    Total Recall
    True Lies

There a few more. The majority of the above are OOP and were only ever avliable in Japan. If anyone ever sees the Jurassic Parks, buy them and I will definitely have them off you.

  10. That is not the Superbit one though, she deserves a slap anyway.

I have all three in dts but not full bitrate, this is only avaliable on the superbits. All of the superbit ones on ebay are bootlegs.

  11. Sound makes up two thirds of a movie's impact imo.

I only have Gladiator and Jurassic Park (Japanese)
at super bit full DTS. All I can say is.. wow!!

A friend has U471 at full DTS and played on my
setup it is better than any theatre I have ever been
    to.

Blade III will be out soon. Can't wait to hear the soundtrack
because even at 768kbs DTS-ES Blade II was amazing. Finding
Nemo was excellent for DTS as well.

Anyone know where you can buy the DTS CD's
direct - the ones meant for theatres.

    Hello,
I'm suprised no one mentioned TWISTER. I remember seeing in the 1500 range on the dts track. Blew me away, literally!!!!

    Kevin

P.S. I've got XMEN 2, JP3, THE MUMMY Ultimate Edition, CHICKEN RUN SE - all DTS and all rock!

----Dolby Digital es for Star Wars ain't half bad, though too bad Lucas has seemed to ban DTS from his movies, -------(since he probably helped finance Dolby in the first place I guess)
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  14. Yeah Twister is good and full bitrate, the others you list are only half though.

I meant to say mate, perhaps woth looking at D-VHS. that's full bitrate DTS and with titles at ~£40 not too expensive, especially given they're also HD. from memory you have a plasma, is it HD?
    Quote Quote
  18. No its not hd.

I am going to be getting (she does not know yet) a 50 inch hd next month.

I just somehow need to convince her of "no darling I have had that for ages"

Isn't there a site that has the actual list of DVD titles that are currently released as FULL BITRATE DTS. I thought there was. If it's no longer around, someone should set up a site like that. If the popularity of those sites increases greatly enough, Hollywood might realize they can't go cheap on it like they have been doing with most of the movies.

  22. There is, however I have the link on my work pc

Hollywood is actually in the right. They halved dts so they had the space to add extra features

I'm happy with having special features on a separate disc. I don't need adverts, or moving menus on the feature disc. Just the movie. In Dual Layer pressed discs, you can fit quite a bit of information. I was pissed when I got a TopGun DVD. The movie is 109 minutes long, but they put it on a DL disc having both a Full Screen Version and a Wide Screen version. What the heck do I need a FS version of a movie for? Might be okay for people who have TV's smaller than 12", but not for 4/5 of the population that have >19" TVs on the average. They could have cleaned up the whole thing and put it onto one DL disc with beautiful sound in WS format and it would be the biggest thing. If they want to add extras or special features, throw in a second disc and charge $5 bucks more for it.

This is my elevated response to Hollywood -
