patching together seperate video files

hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me, regarding video files , i can download video files i.e. *.rar, *.par, mpg, wmv etc , but how do i join them together, and what does par and rar mean etc, im kind of lost perhaps someone could help me ,

You can join video files (mpg,mov,avi) together with any video editor that is compatible with the type of file your using. With a good editor you can join multiple types of files to produce one movie.

RAR and PAR aren't video files. RAR and PAR files are used for splitting and joing large files usually posted to newsgroups. http://www.newsrover.com/rar.htm
