UMMMM, time get a real PC like a 1.5 gig Athlon or 1.8 gig P4 at half the cost of a mac. I saw a 1 gig athlon by HP with 128 megs ram, burner, 40 gig hard drive, XP, speakers, eithernet, modem, mouse, keyboard, sound blaster, 32 meg TNT2 video card as Sams club $599. At That price, it would be just a down payment on a mac.

thxkid oviously dosent know what the f**k hes talking about. Probably never used a Mac. You know theres a reason they use Macs or SGI to do big busget effects for movies and TV. Its because those wimpy little wintels are just too unstable and slow to do it. Take a look at the benchmarks anyday Macs are faster.

thxkid you should listen to digitalfilmguy..... More Mhz-Ghz in a computer is misunderstood..... Macs are faster than PC's because the design is better.... If you put a 2ghz chip in a PIECE OF SH_IT (PC) you still get a PIECE OF SH_IT (PC).... I know not everyone can afford a Caddilac..... But if you wan't a Yugo buy a PC...
Think Different ?
Macs are faster and more reliable.... -
herm, Thnxkid has a point unfortunately '(..the mac addicts (im one..) that criticize thnxkid are right bout the MHZ not meaning much anymore BUt!! arg this is a huuge "BUT"...well I love mac period. Im adicted to it for more than 3 years now..spending 16 hours a day on it..(yes i have no life..)..blabla i know the mac by heart..really. BUt! (heres this darn huge "BUT" again..) the facts speak out of themselves..lets make it simple..i wanna make a vcd, what are my choices?:
1.on Mac, both encoding and burning cause big problems. CLeaner 5 is well known to be dog slow.(reallllllllllly slow) but has a nice output..but then the output..gets unplayable by quicktime or not recognized by vcd gear(the 2324 packet problem)..or if by a random miracle u succeed in burning it..(the special vcd) it will play in the top left quarter of ure tv screen(not very enjoyable..)
2.on Mac use Astarte m.pack..no longer supported..horrible outputs for mpeg encoding....
3. digigami mpeg exporter. super expensive, super crappy
4. toast vcd export: dont wanna talk about this crap
5..heuris solutions are for pros only..(pro = having 'nugh money for the software in this case) 400$? mb more...
6.vcd gear and vcd imager are both great apps! but are only made to add the final touches to a good mpeg..the main Mac problem is do the first part of the job..and get a good mpeg.
7...im starting to lose my point..well except that what im saying in my earlier "points"..a Mac is a CRAAAAAP for mpeg authoring/encoding (OsX is gonna change it all?it seems so but looks like we can still wait lots of months for osX solutions..)
8!: all i can say is that thxkid and his cheap "high" end pc..that will cost him 25% of a double g4-800 and will encode/burn the vcd ( rip the dvd aswell mb) in less than 2-3 hours and in top quality with tons of already available softwares ..which have proven to work already where as the mac user ( the rich mac user...) well i wonder how hell reach that result.. :/ I love Mac but to me..which is experiencing vcd making on the mac for months now..24/24..im disapointed.. mb its just a matter of software..but the pc..rulz the mac here..sorry mac lovers ;'(
p.s. lets start the flame(if i succeeded in making any points here
and would be super glad to hear bout proper solutions for encoding on mac but i doubt ill hear any..im now sparing money to buy a pc..(1000 euros for comp that would make the entire trip..dvd-->vcd in 3 hours.
