Hi,
I captured (3) 1 hour DV tapes to my computer but when I viewed the rendered file, both SVCD and DVD, it seems to be a bit slow. (My goal is to make a SVCD from the DV but when the result turned out slow I tried the DVD to see if it would be any different but it wasn't.) To give you some kind of idea of what I mean by slow - not exact - the program I taped, which took about 2 and a half hours seemed to need an extra 5 minutes or so. I don't know if this is because of some problem with the tapes stretching? How can I fix it? I am using Ulead Videostudio 6. The original file capured from the DV is about 37 GB

Just incase you end up with dropped frames...don't use UVS6 just for capturing DV. Use WinDV. http://windv.mourek.cz/download/WinDV-1.2.3.zip

There were no dropped frames...the problem is that the resultant file was a seems to take a few minutes longer to play than the event it recorded. is there some way I can speed it up?

It looks like you have captured in uncompressed format. Tough for even the fastest PC. As a rule of thumb, a 10min video clip (avi format) = 2 giga byte. Go to the codec section and get one. Either Huffyuv or Picvideo MJPEC codec. Huffyuv is a freeware and Picvideo is not.

thanks..so r u suggesting that my Ulead software was at fault? I don't mind if that is the problem. I understand what you are telling me to do but I am not sure why. You are telling me that I should re-render the file using a different program so I am assuming that there is something at fault with the Ulead??

So you are suggesting that I must recapture the video? Is there any way to correct the file I already have?

I am still not clear on what you mean by slow. Do you mean the MPEG shows that it is a little longer than the original video? If so, what is the problem?
If the file displays properly, I would ignore the extra length. I am assuming you are using SVCD format. If the finished video won't fit into your media, you need to encode it at a lower bitrate.
Or, is the entire video running at a slower rate? (Somewhat like slow motion, with the audio also distorted?) -
When you did your capture using Ulead, I think there is an option that you can set your capture to either compressed or uncompressed capture. It's advisable that you set your capture to pressed with a proper codec installed.

Thanks! Yes, the entire video is running a little too slow. It is not very noticeable when people are talking but there are several instances when people are singing and it becomes noticeable, just slightly distorted. A bit like slow motion but only slightly noticeable. It is as though you videotaped people from California and they came out speaking as slow as people from Georgia
