    does anyone know if this player is capable of playing vcd's
    and is there anyway to remove macrovision or change the region code? if anyone has any information please let me know. Thanks

    Don't know about the 1600, but the 1700 (presumable its offspring) cannot play VCDs. Also, I know of no way to play a DVD without Macrovision, other than to remove it after the signal leaves the DVD player using a "color corrector". But I would LOVE to find out if it can be done.
