    I have been burning using 4x media with my DVR-107. No problems with any disc brand. I finally bought some 8x memorex dvd-r discs, but they will only burn 4x. What's up with that ? I use Nero 5.5 and have firmware 1.13

    If you have DVDDecrypter you could launch it with the 8x dvd in the drive, select iso and write, you will then see if the burner actually recognize the media as 8x.

    If you use max under speed settings in nero try to see if 8x is aviable manually...

    I would upgrade your firmware to 1.18. There were a lot of additions in the newer firmware related to 8X media. I have encountered no problems with my 107 after 1.18.
