I have a kind of an odd question. I have taken some videos from my dvd camcorder and converted them to dvd format. I have not yet gotten a dvd burner. I want to store the videos on a cd for the time being. They are just taking up my HD space. I was wondering if I can store it as data without losing quality when i do burn them to a dvd to make them dvd compliant. Thanx All

    Hello,
You can split the data files and spread them across many cd-rs. I believe you just need to get the files small enough to fit (700mb).

  3. Or you could just compress and split them with winrar as all yor are doing is archiving them as data.

When you want to burn them to the dvd simply put them back together.

winrar (or any other compression tool) won't get you much (ie. <5% to none) as far as space savings when trying to compress already compressed video.

However, it is still a valid tool for splitting your mpg's to put on multiple disks.

I'd start saving your pennies. With 4x burners out there for US$50 (and 8x for $75, 16x for $95) its getting harder to say they're not worth the buy.
    Have a good one,
