  4. Download the ND-2510A firmware version 2.06 - it will let you burn Double Layer DVD+R as well as DVD-R/RW! 8)

  6. It's for the ND-2510A, but you can safely use it in any ND-2100A, ND-2500A, or ND-2510A.

  7. To flash a 2100 to a 2500 or 2510, you MUST flash in DOS.
There is no Windows flasher that can do this.

  8. Hey, thanks for the info regarding firmware. I have 3 questions,
Is the Dos flasher reliable? I hear that it's dengerous.

I have burned over 100 DVD +R'S with this drive and have not had any coaster yet. The media were Ritek and Verbatim. Will this unofficial firmware make my drive make any coaster's? I really like to burn DVD -R'S, but at what cost?

Will this void my computer Dell warranty?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. The DOS flasher works perfectly.
I haven't heard any reports of the actual DOS utility to cause a problem.

You may burn coasters if you attempt to burn poor quality media at high speeds. If this would occur, just drop the burn speed for the discs you are using. Good quality 4X discs should be able to be burnt at 8X with very good results.

I don't believe it will void your Dell PC warranty, but it will void the warranty on the DVD writer.

  10. Just make a backup of your original firmware and you can't go wrong!

I have an OEM ND-2500A that I've flashed with firmware 2.16 - working perfectly with Verbatim DVD+R DL.

PI/PO error rates are equal to or lower than with official ND-2500A firmware - plus you get the advantage of support for newer media, because 2.16 is a newer firmware release when compared to 1.07 for the ND-2500A!

  11. Hey thanks for the advice. Where can I get the firmware? My current firmware is for the 2100 is 104E. Now the correct procedure is
to get the firmware that makes this drive write -R thus making it a ND-2500 and then getting the 2.16 firmware TO MAKE IT ND-2510A ? Am I currect? Also where can I get the 2.16 firmware?

    Thanks in advance

  13. The original 2.16 did not support RITEK DVD+R DL with the RITEK D01 code. Herrie has patched 2.16 to include this media code and the resultant firmware is available here: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=28214

  14. Hey sorry about the questions. I am new to this and I am having some problems doing this. I went to
    http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND2100A

and downloaded the 2100@2500 1.06 and the 1.01 DOS flasher for the 2500 on to 2 floppy's. I tried to boot from the DOS flasher disc but it won't let me go into DOS. It says remove the disc, media from drive and restart. Why is it doing this? Like I said I am new to this and don't know how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  15. You downloaded an old firmware! Get 2.16 from http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=28214.

After you've downloaded the newer firmware, format two floppies - one as a System Disk (MS-DOS boot disk) and one as a blank disk. Copy the 2510216.BIN and NEC2X00A.EXE files to the blank disk, and with the System Disk in your floppy drive (A:), reboot the system.

When you see the MS-DOS prompt, remove the System Disk from your floppy drive and insert the disk with the firmware flashing files. Assuming that your burner is connected as a Master to the Secondary IDE Channel (check using Nero InfoTool), enter in the following command exactly as I have it:

    nec2x00a -sec -mas -flash 2510216.bin

Wait until the firmware has been flashed to your drive, and then reboot your system.

  16. Hey thanks for the advice. The flashing worked fine. My drive was not the master it was the slave. But the only problem is that the burning speed is 1X and the other one is max. I am using Sonic record now. Before this I had the option of 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x & max. Now do you know a way of getting 2x or 4x? I don't like burning at the MAX speed and the 1x is too slow. Also after flashing the number of region changers left became from 4 to 1. How did this happen?

Make sure DMA is enabled on all IDE channels.

This is because the firmware makes your drive region free.
