Why do we yawn?

I believe it is due to hypoxia/oxygen hunger.

Well that could be true, becasue the thing with seeing people yawn making you yawn is definitely a psychological thing.

That part is definitely psychological but what I also meant was that its just become so ingrained in your mind that when you're tired you yawn that you do so, not because you need to but because your brain tells you that it is a normal thing to do in that situation.

I'll dig out the article if I can find it. It explains things better than I can.

I read that the reason we yawn our bodying telling us we are going from 1 state to another. When we wake up, we yawn because we go from sleep to awake...when we listen to our girls yap about nothingness, our body turns off and yawns to tell us we are shutting down. At least thats what I read
