I'm looking to add 512mb of SDRAM to my Hp Pavilion pc. I contacted hp on which brand s to use. They said these 2 are guarenteed to work:

    *Micron
    *Siemens

Looking to see what other Hp users have used or what others think are good memory brands/specs?

    Main uses of this computer:

    1. Dvd burning
    2. MP3
    3. Web

  2. Best bet...

If your adding to the existing memory, Buy whatever brand is already installed.

    Or

Take out the old memory completely and install the new brand that was suggested from HP. I would by Micron, never used siemens.

Mix & match of memory brands sometimes causes BSOD or no boot (error beeps). That just from experience. I don't mix any brands unless I absolutly have have.

Wish I could remember the name of the memory I put in my Pavilion, but I cant. All I do remember is I had 256, then I added another 256 of a different brand and no problems. I guess Im probably lucky.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

Crucial.com has great memory at 'fairly' reasonable prices if you really want to be sure you're getting the right kind of memory for your system. They let you put in the mfr and model of your PC and it shows you the best match / type for good performance and compatibility. Also, you may want to make sure that

    1) your HP can access another 1GB of ram and

    2) your HP has 2 available dimm slots, many name brand PCs only come with 2 slots, which means you'll have to give up what you already have and you'll end up with just the 1GB you're buying.

If you don't mind, what model Pavillion do you have?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
