Ok, I know this is off topic, but I know we're all buddies here, so I wanted your opinions. I am trying to get my OSX panther protected and wanted to see if anyone knows of a solid, free antivirus out there for OSX. I keep my machine off mostly to do vid. work, but I am just trying to keep it real. I also would love a recommendation on a spyware- eliminator to really tighten my hatches.
If anyone can help, please do, and sorry to anyone offended at my off-topicness, it won't become a habit. Thanks again to all-

Virex is the one I use, it is part of your .mac
as far as spyware, thats one of the benefits of having a mac, last i checked there was no spyware. there may be, but in all my years [knock on my AlBook] i have never had a virus nor experienced any spyware. -
FCPguy,
spend your money elsewhere.
nobody has come up with an OS X virus yet.
when you read about one on macfixit.com or the other mac news sites, then it's time to buy.

Nothing in OSX that could even been thought about.
Best reason to be on OSX, IMHO.
Of course to be fair, I only remember one trojan
horse on OS9 waaaaay back in 1995-96 due
to a bad Macaddict disc...?
But nothing affects OS X.
Of course, that doesn't stop people
from trying to say that they are infected...
A friend of mine who's computer is on OS X
( a dual G4 450 to be exact)
still tells clients he works for that he has a virus
when he needs a little down time...!
in my ( real world) job, I for one am glad to be
the only Mac tech at my job...The worst
I ever have to worry about is some novice
in OSX who trashes their icons off their dock,
and calls me to ask how to " get their application
out of the trash."
aaah, to be a mac tech....no virus, no email worms...
with a good tool like Onyx or my favorite,
Macaroni, you buy that to handle your daily crons,
your weekl crons, and repair your permissions,
and your machine stays top notch. -
actually a good friend of mine got a ms word virus, dont know how thats possible, but he said it causes his new documents to be named things crazy like "Hi, don't you wonder how this document is titled this" and "Your computer isnt as safe as you thought it was"
but once you save it they are gone. not debilitating, but its out there
