I want to buy some good Taiyo Yuden cd-r's but which surface is the easiest to write on with a marker, regular Silver Shiny, Silver Inkjet printable, or White Inkjet printable? The only reason I ask this is because I have been using TDK cd-r's with a regular shiny surface and sometimes I have to go over the letters a second time with my Fellows cd marking pen. Not a big deal but maybe there is a better surface to write on than what I've been using. Thanks!

Good question. From my experience, this depends on the marker and the brand of surface. Not all matte finishes are made the same. Sharpies do well on matte surfaces and high quality printable surfaces but some low quality "shiny silver" or low quality shiny printable surfaces tend to go bad or look sloppy. Maxell water based markers work well on matte as well but may look thin on some shiny silver. Never tried the fellowes unfortunatly.

From your three choices, I would say that white printable should be easiest to write on, but shiny silver should also be fine considering they are cheaper.

To answer directly: paper or tabletop

but seriously I found Sharpie 2 tip pens are the best. The problem you have is usually with a thin tip. Try thicker one (other side) or better yet having few different pens, just in case...

I didn't think about the different brands of media having different surfaces. I plan on in the future using only Ty's for for cd-r's and dvds, anyone familiar with their surfaces in particular?

Also I'm only using a marker for now, but may go ahead and buy the Epson R200 so would like the best surface that fits both options.
