Do you agree with the airline or do you agree with the passenger? IMHO, though I would have liked to have seen the shirt, the airline states it has the right to remove a person for this specific reason. It's a business and has the right to refuse business to anyone who does not follow their rules of conduct.

Couple barred from flight for man's shirt
Clothing depicted lewd act, airline says
    The Associated Press
Updated: 9:55 p.m. ET Aug.01, 2004 MIAMI - A couple returning home from a Costa Rican vacation was ejected from an American Airlines flight because the man was wearing a T-shirt depicting a bare breast.

Oscar Arela and his girlfriend were removed from Flight 952 on Saturday after he refused to change the shirt or turn it inside out at Miami International Airport.

The couple, who were making a connecting flight, said nobody on their earlier flight objected to the shirt and claimed the airline violated their constitutional right to free speech.

“It’s a picture of a man and woman, and the woman’s breast is showing,” said his girlfriend, Tala Tow. “The flight attendant basically walked up to us and yelled, ’You have to take off that shirt right now.”’

American spokesman Tim Wagner said Sunday that crew members acted properly, and said the shirt was more graphic than the couple described. The airline gave them a refund, he said.

Wagner noted on American’s Web site the policy clearly states that someone who is “clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers” can be removed from a flight.

All free speech issues aside....Have some amount of freakin' class people!

Plain and simple, since the policy is stated, I would have to agree with the airline. If the passengers don't like it, they are free to find another airline.

  11. I would, of course, be willing to change my position if I could actually see the T-Shirt in question. I'd have to consider the the quality of the artwork and the eroticism factor...

I'm working on my flip-flop in preparation for November.

(I still stand behind the airline.)

ill-regardless of the airline, any establishment can kick anyone they feel will deter a majority of their customer base by wearing something that will offend others. You don't see me at Starbucks wearing a tee shirt that says
    (front)I'm Pro-GAY PEOPLE.......(Back) Bashing!
Heck no. They would kick me out for a huge loss of their Mocha-Latte business.

I hope so. I would also have made as much stick about it too if I were a steward or pilot. Not for the offensive part, but just for the fact of having the power to boot someone off the flight. I bet the whole plane was pretty quite and relaxing once that happened.

I can't. Both little fingers are in a permanent 20 degree arc, probably from breaking them as often as I have.

Ok, I really don't know much of anything about the airline industry but aren't they public corporations? I mean can't I go out and buy stock in any given airline I want? If so then what does free speech have to do with this? Unless the airline is being run by the Government, or this dress code is government enforced, then the Constitution means absolutely nothing to the airline. Free speech guarantees only limit what the Government can do. Businesses can limit your speech as much as they want to.

I'm sure I must be missing something, but weren't the airlines deregulated years ago?

The airline done the right thing to ban offensive t-shirts in public.

My local RSL club got the same rule in there and they would bar anyone having offensive langauge and/or offensive images on the shirt or clothing.

No swearing is tolerated there either.

I am 100% with the airline.

I'm with the airline. it's really not a big deal to change the shirt. it's a bicture of a breast, it's not like the shirt represents his beliefs or seomthing like that.

Dude, if I had a body that slim, I'd be pimpin' my Mr. Clean every night at the Circle K for cash on the spot, not running Code Red through the Sumo Sam's All-You-Can-Eat Trough.

So, if a hot babe came walking in, braless, 40 D's, with a slightly dampened white t-shirt on... you'd throw her out due to her offensive imagery
