Has anyone had this problem?
Unit was new stock, purchased this week from Best Buy, and has firmware 1.10 installed.
I know 1.18 is current firmware, but 1.10 should be able to burn Memorex 2.4x DVD+RW without a firmware upgrade, shouldn't it?
I tried Nero 6.3.0.3 and 6.6.0.1. Both versions recognize the Pioneer writer.
The DVR 108 is housed in an external USB/FW enclosure, and used with a Dell 8500 notebook via firewire connection. The DVR 108 is left on master setting.
This setup works fine with my LiteOn 411s and Phillips DVD burners.
DVR 108 formatting is successful, and the burn process starts -- but then locks up, resulting in a failure.
Again, the DVR 108 read is fine. There is no successful writes - to either DVD+RWs or CD-Rs.
Should I return the DVR 108 and buy an NEC 3500?

sounds like the drive could be defective. return it for another 108.

1) Remove all jumpers from the 108
2)Try with Nero 5.5.XX
I had some difficulties when I had my old Panny burner in an external FW enclosure. I couldn't use DVDInfo Pro, for one thing. It could be the setup is doing something funky. I never found a workaround
