Okay, time for the goofball question of the day...
When backing up the movie "Seven Years in Tibet", MacTheRipper gave an error message near the very end of the process.
It turns out that all the vob files had been successfully decompressed/decrypted except for the very last one (Media problem...).
After throroughly cleaning the DVD (yes, the kids have managed to scratch it up pretty good - hence the need for backup copies) I managed to be able to physically copy this last vob file from the DVD to the hard drive (in the Finder).
Since DVD2One won't subsequently process the VideoTS folder since it notices that the final vob file (I physically copied) is encrypted, Is there anyway I can get MTR to "process" just this one vob file (so I can continue on with DVD2One and Toast)?
Would someone kindly outline the step-by-step instr's to accomplish this.
Note: MTR would still fail when I tried to Rip from DVD again (scratched area must be a problem). Never had a problem with MTR until this scratched DVD.
Thanks for all your help and your posts gang. Slowly but surely I am getting a better understanding of the complexities of DVD ripping as well as the myriad of features that geezerbuttz has put into MTR [Thanks for all your hard work geezerbuttz!]

No, MTR cannot rip a single VOB file in Full Disc mode. You need to do the whole thing again (possibly trying ForceRead mode), or try using DVDBackup to rip the file you need.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
You can also make an encrypted disc image of your original DVD, mount the image and set MTR to work on the image.

Can I make a DVD disk image (via Toast etc - to mimick the orig DVD) with a Video TS folder and just the ONE vob file in it and then mount it and process it thru MTR? Or, do I have to have the entire group of vob files in the Video TS folder for this to work? Thanks again!

A disk image with just the one VOB file is the same as copying the one VOB file to your hard drive and trying MTR on it -- it wont work. You need all the files, so just try out one of the suggestions above.

you could just use OSeX or YadeX to rip out just that individual .vob

Yade X will decrypt entire VIDEO_TS folders. If you can copy the entire folder ifo, bups VOBs as well as the offending VOB onto your hard drive, you can decrypt and back it up.
