No, it doesn't matter, and asking this question won't get you a good answer because some will say -R and some will say +R.

  3. It depends on your stand-alone player. I wasted 3 disk until I realize that my player didn't support DVD+R media unless it was bit-set to DVD-ROM.
I just got the LiteOn SOHW-832S last week at the Computer Show for $65.00. Not bad for a dual layer / dual format drive!

  4. If thats the liteon dvd writer i think it is, then you got a damn good price for it.

I got my local computer store to query some prices, what i needed was a dual layer dual format DVD burner, they said they can get a liteon (dual layer, dual format) for €156

Instead, i went up to the city, saved 5 bucks and bought a Freecom for €149.99 at Argos.

I still dont know which format is better, DVD-RW or DVD+RW, today a shop sold em both for the same price, €15 for a pack of 5, so i decided to go for DVD-RW because I heard its more compatible, but I'd still like to know whats the advantages to using DVD+R/RW then

  5. Many older DVD players (3+ years) will not play DVD+R (or +RW / -RW, for that matter).

DVD-R is generally the most backwards compatible

For more recent DVD players, it doesn't matter. Both work equally well.

The fastest currently available for both RW's is 4x. Think most burners made within the last ~1½ years or so will burn +RW @ 4x but -RW @ 2 or 2.4x. Only the very newest support 4x -RW. Newer firmwares for said older drives may've fixed that, however. I use Memorex (RicohJpn) +RW's for system backup and they burn @ 4x in my Sony 510A. Remember reading somewhere that +RW was preferable to data use.
