  1. I've been trying to rip and use DVD subtitles to no success. I've tried ffmpeg and Titlelab but I keep getting errors. I can pull the .spc files from the DVD but how do I re-use it? It opens in Graphic Converter but i'm using DVD STudio Pro to create the DVD and use the .spc file to no success. Any pro out there that can help me?

If I were you, I would go to a subtitle web site and download them there.
    Hello.

  3. first of all try to rip the subtitles into .srt or .sub than open it into titlelab sync the whole lot or do timeshifting, than save it as a DVDSP file. Open it up in textedit and put on top this:
    $FontName = Comic Sans MS
    $FontSize = 24
    $Bold = True
    $HorzAlign = Center

Save the file and now you can import it into DVDSP 2 if you want to import it into DVDSP 1.5 you can import right after saving it from titlelab you don't have to do the above.

  4. Ok the above method works, to a certain degree but I get an error when importing into DVDSP saying it's the incorrect timecode blah blah. I went back into titlelab and tried to re-export it, same problem again. So how do I sync the subtitles in titlelab to match the asset video in DVDSP? I know I would have to do that in titlelab under the "transform" tab somehow but titlelab didnt come with a help file (?!)....

  7. First of all take a look at the videoasset it's starting time ( something like this 00:59:59 ) open the subtitles in titlelab and adjust the subtitels with 3599 seconds ( 1 hour is 3600 seconds) with other words if your first subtitle starts with 00:00:25 it will look like this 01:00:24 . Than save it again for DVDSP and import it in DVDSP delete the tracks first before placing on the timeline and than place the video and soundtrack on the timeline and than import the subtitles. When the subtitels later on are out of sync look where it is out of sync and adjust it from that part in titlelab and than save it again for DVDSP under another name than simply copy/paste it in the first DVDSP subtitle and import it again on the timeline from there on no need to delete the videotrack and soundtrack from the timeline.

  8. Macfan, Thanks for the response. DVDSP2 still isnt importing these subtitles. OK here is what i'm doing:

I open DVDSP2 and checked the asset timeline it starts at 00:11:59:00 and ends at 02:01:41:23. The second asset starts at 02:01:41:23 and ends at 02:21:42:00. (There are 2 assets on the timeline by the way that make up the full video) OK, I then goto Titlelab and open the .SRT file. Here's a snippit from the beggining:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    00:01:37.76 00:01:39.54 SEATTLE
00:02:40.17 00:02:46.10 The guy got away!

    Go after him now, man!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I goto the TRANSFORM tab and under "time shift" I type 719.

My openiing time now looks like this:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    0:13:36.76 0:13:38.56 SEATTLE
0:14:39.59 0:14:45.36 The guy got away!

    Go after him now, man!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, I then export to DVDSP. It asks my for a FPS, I type in 29.97 (for NTSC). it saves the file as a .txt. I then OPen DVDSP2 and wipe my timeline and try to import the .txt file. I ctrl + click on the Subtitle timeline track and pull down to "Import Subtitle File"... I get this:

"No Corresponding Subtitles Found. The video asset timecode may not correspond with the timecode specified for the subtitles in the import file or the file is invalid."

Now i've tried adding tracks first, then importing... same thing happens. Any suggestions?

  9. remove the and and replace

    It should look like this:
    $FontName = Chalkboard
    $Bold = True
    $FontSize = 24
    $HorzAlign = Center

    00:01:37.09 , 00:01:39.15 , Hey, Stacy...

Another thing if you want to split video and sound use from a DVD use EXTRACTOR this app can join all video streams and sound streams as one stream and it is fast.

  10. Macfan, thanks you've been a great help! Your suggestion worked. It was the formatting that was the problem and the EXTRACTOR program works great. Much better then using ddDEMUX.

I just have 1 more question.... I've re-adjusted the start time of the subtitles in Titlelab to syncronize to the video asset in DVDSP2. Only problem is the subtitles go about 6 seconds over which now shifts the whole subtitles in the timeline. I've tried to fix this in Titlelab but since Titleab doesnt come with instrucitons i'm getting a little lost. Any idea how I fix this?

First check in DVDSP where the subs are out of sync again, and about how much seconds.
Try to mark from where the subs are going out of sync, all before that copy/paste it into a txt file. Than sync all as much as you have seen they had to be adjusted save it as a new dvdsp file and simply copy from the marker and paste it into the txt file. You may have to do this time over again till all subs are done, i know it can be alot of work.

Another solution is to use a app called SubSyncX just mark the first sub and the last sub than save it again and import it into Titlelab and save it as DVDSP. Check within DVDSP that all subs are in sync sometimes this works sometimes still some subs are out of sync.

  12. Macfan, you're the man! The SubsyncX application worked like a charm. Great little app. Was able to sync the subs with no problems what so ever.
