I'm really confused as to why this player will not play certain VCDs (mainly once by the group Centropy) but others work flawlessly. What happens is once I put these discs in and play, the screen starts rolling really fast... it's effect is similar to older TVs where you would mess with it's V-Hold settings.
I did a little searching on the forums here, and I'm thinking these vcds could have been encoded in PAL format, and I do not believe my TV is PAL compatible. Numerous posters have suggested to hold the 'forward' button on the player while turning it on to switch the output to NTSC only but this doesn't seem to work on mine.![]()
Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to this problem?

The pioneer dv-444 is ntsc only. You are not going to be able to play a pal vcd on it.

Are you positive the DV-444 is NTSc only? That's very disappointing to hear.
There are a few threads like this where people state you can switch the output from NTSC, PAL, and AUTO:

Also, are there any program you can use to find out if the *.bin file is encoded in pal or ntsc? -
I have not heard about being able to switch back and forth from ntsc to pal. Also this dvd player does have problems with vcd/svcd's encoded above 2600.
