  3. I am using a canopus 300 to capture direct to mpeg using Cyberlink power producer, gives excellent results and you still get very good filtering using the canopus software.

This is great and using tmpgenc if your source is poor, I am using a set top dvd recorder-Panasonic e55, to record stuff off tv onto dvd ram then editing on pc, great way to archive favourite shows, but I am using a digital cable source.

My experience is that we are trying to get dvd quality when its all subjective, a good source and a good vhs set up can match dvd recording IMHO, but from what i have seen a lot of people have crappy cable setups, and wouldn't know a good picture if it hit them.

Certainly the way dvd set top recorders are improving the benfits of capturing on pc are doubtfull, but the editing and menu abilities are great fun and add to your finished product.

Erm, Terry old bean, you replying to the wrong post?

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9 with my ADVC-100 and have been producing stunning home movie/digital broadcast DVD's for what seems like an age now.
