the mad dog one is a NEC but the different name. will it burn the same kind of dvds? Im thinking about getting the Mad Dog one but i would like to know if i will be able to play burned dvd's from that dvd burner on this DVD player https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1312&Search=Search&#comments and it i will what dvd discs should i buy?

I don't know about the price for the Mad Dog, but an OEM Nec 2500 goes for about $64. a nec 2500 is a Nec 2500 regardless of the packaging; same burner.
