Just heard yesterday that with the July 31 trading deadline looming, the Chicago Cubs picked up shortstop Nomar Garciaparra from the Boston Red Sox in a 4-team, numerous player deal. That's good news for the Cubs who have been platooning at short, with Ordonez, Martinez and Gonzales all covering that position this year. Garciaparra is an outstanding shortstop who is great with the glove and also is an excellent hitter with power.

Nomar was sad to leave beantown, but happy to be coming to Chi-town. I'll bet he's glad to be on a team that isn't in the same division as the Yankees

There's a game today, that I'll be glued to, with the Cubs against the Phillies. I want to watch Nomar at the plate - he's got a ritual he performs with his wrist brace straps that is amusing to watch

I have one question - they always mention "a player to be named later" in these baseball trades. Did you ever wonder how the poor guys have been signing their checks all that time?

BTW, OT seems a little dead today. I think I'll start photochopping ....

Well, the game's over. Garciaparra went 1 for 4 with an RBI. He made some nice plays with the glove on tough pop-ups. Cubs won 6-3

Sorry. I forgot you guys don't have baseball there. Yep - baseball. The largest sport over here, attendance-wise

it's cricket. they have no end of "test" matches, then fight over an ancient incinerated wicket, when there's perfectly servicable ones in the middle of the field
