  1. Hi everyone!

I stumbled upon an auction on eBay selling IR filters. It claims the IR filter used with nightshot will see thru wet clothing, like bathing suits, hence, having an Xray effect. Has anyone tried this? Does it really work?

I haven't tried this but yes it works.

All digital camcorders/cameras normally have an IR filter (i.e., filters OUT IR) so that you don't get false colour in the picture (CCDs can see IR wavelengths while out eyes cannot).

However, for "nightshot" mode on Sony units, it pulls the IR filter out of the way and usually there are a few IR diodes that light up in the front to light up the scene.

In daylight, if you put the unit into nightshot mode AND put a filter in front of the lens that cuts out visible wavelengths (but allows IR to pass through), then you end up essentially with IR only image. Infra-red tends to be able to penetrate through light clothing relatively well. This technique only works in bright lighting.

This may not work in newer vesions of Sony camcorders however as I think they may sense the incoming light levels and only pull the IR filter out of the way in the dark... or something like that. Sony is way ahead of you perverted people...

    Regards.

For a lot cheaper and easier, you could pay a model $30 to see her naked for an hour or so. Photograph her to your hearts content.

www.garageglamour.com to hook up with a workshop of some sort

This is for nude work, professional atmosphere, not porn.

Those filters are retarded. The lengths some people go to just to see some skin.

    Just expanding on vitualis's post
Yes it does work but ONLY if you have a set number of conditions correct
-You have an original release Sony Hi8 cam - there is a website that lists the model numbers where the IR feature works in bright daylight, Sony altered the sensors so they don't work in bright light after what is known as the Japanese beach incident :P
-You need a LOT of sunlight, mainly for the IR levels, beaches work well here
-People need to wear thin synthetic materials, and not a lot of it, again beaches seem to work well here
Some synthetic stuff goes transparent unless it gets wet and then it's regular, other material is transparent all the time.

I have one of these original release camera's, when I found out about it I "rushed" down to the beach - Gold Coast Main beach for the Aussie's in the audience and tested it out
Disappointing to say the least - it's not what you expect, unless your idea of great naked girls has them rendered in fuzzy green-gray colours

The filters you can purchase for still camera's and whatnot don't do this though - I have a 720nm IR filter for my Digital still and while the shots look great for landscapes they won't do anything for shooting through clothing.

  10. Even after Sony found out about this 'special' feature their camera could perform and modified it, people still figured out how to get around it by using the 'half-way' trick, which was merely moving the nightshot 'slide' to the middle. Not completely on and not completely off. I believe this worked for the 2nd generation, as I have one and am able to do that.

But non the less, I don't have an IR Filter, refused to pay $30.00 an hour to see nudity (hell maybe my ex-wife was a bargain after all! lol j/k) and with what most people are wearing in public now-a-days ... .chit ya can almost see everything anyways!

I believe Sony futher increased their security by adding a sensor and the NightShot feature won't work at all during the day no matter what you try.

Even the malls, etc here won't let ya in with a digicam, let alone a camcorder so alot of places are in the know, some arn't....but I guess if ya see a guy walking on the beach with black socks, sandles and a camcorder it's prolly nothing to worry about right?

Futhermore, I've heard of U.S. Customs <ahem> Homeland Security Boarder Protection er watever setting up stings to nab people wanting to purchace these nifty items, but on the other hand, I hear they can be worth quite a pretty penny to the highest bidding perv..

Good, bad or indifferent, damn is it a nice cammy...got mine for a good price few years back and have well got my money out it....kudos to Sony!

This is sad, very very sad.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  13. Yes, it works.

Plenty of pictures on the web showing that it works.

You can make a simliar filter by using just film thats been processed with no pictures on it.

Only works for certain fabrics too. An amazing scientific find, this.

I would be more tempted to mount it on the dashboard of my car, and connect to a display so I could see things like police speed traps or deer in the road during fog and at night.

The IR punch through fog really well
    and stage smoke too!

Only get some extra IR lights as the ones on the camera don't project very far at all.
You can buy a Sony add-on IR light but it only adds about 25-30 meters to your viewing distance
