Didn't she do at least some basic research on the company after they said they would hire her? Thinking that it was legit is pretty ignorant. And ignorance has never been a good defense in court.

You can research the company and still have it look legit. Not being in the accounting field, I really don't know what giveaway signs would look like, but try being unemployed for a year, and most jobs would start looking pretty good. Hard to be objective when you're trying to survive!

I think the online job site is partly to blame too. They should be sued.

  10. My personal opinion is that she Shouldnt get in trouble and whoever's website that hosted the online scam ad should pay the money back out of their insurance to the victim. She didnt know it was a crime, thought she was getting a good job and thats that. I know how it is to be desperate for work, im unemployed as well..I doubt i would fall for this, but come on, this is the age of AOL, Big-Mac Families and Pepsi One (actually..that new one that came out for coke..whatever its called, im too drunk to remember now..), people really are as dumb as possible when it comes to the net and getting scammed. People still get scammed by those "Make money at home, send us 50.00 for processing fees first!" scams.
