Probably not. But definately not without what is called a frimware speedhack. But I think that only works with 4x increased to 8x. You should check at cdfreaks for both you media and drive. You can get media for about fifty cents a disk that will burn at 8x.

  4. Everything I have read about burning speeds says that RW is often destroyed by increased speed. I assume you are asking about DVD+RW since you didn't specify.
Still a few bugs in the system...

The fastest I have been able to write on a 2.4x disc is 6x.

  8. I have a RICOH MP5125, got it back when it was $300 a couple of years ago. Ordered it online and never got billed so it was really free. But now im tired of waiting 18mins for a full dvd to burn. Id like to upgrade to an 8X burner but to still be able to use my 2.4x, and not have to have them burn at 2.4x.

You might be able to burn faster with a firmware upgrade.
