I have first genny burner that burns at speeds of 2.4X, if i upgrade to a 8X can i use my blank 2.4x dvds and burn them at 8x speeds??

Probably not. But definately not without what is called a frimware speedhack. But I think that only works with 4x increased to 8x. You should check at cdfreaks for both you media and drive. You can get media for about fifty cents a disk that will burn at 8x.

Everything I have read about burning speeds says that RW is often destroyed by increased speed. I assume you are asking about DVD+RW since you didn't specify.

I have a RICOH MP5125, got it back when it was $300 a couple of years ago. Ordered it online and never got billed so it was really free. But now im tired of waiting 18mins for a full dvd to burn. Id like to upgrade to an 8X burner but to still be able to use my 2.4x, and not have to have them burn at 2.4x.
