  1. I was using DVD Shrink 3.1 to rip a DVD-9/dual layer movie and it got all the way to 97% and then came up with an error...

Now I don't want to start ALL over again because it takes my stupid computer like 4 hours to rip and compress a DVD-9 using DVD Shrink.

The temporary file has 4.22 GB worth of stuff that DVD Shrink had done in it's 97%, but I don't know if I can now just burn the files that it was able to complete?

I have a whole bunch of VOB, BUP, and IFO files, but not sure what to do with them now. They all have names like "VTS_03_1.VOB" or "VTS_02_0.IFO" etc...do I have to put them in some sort of order to burn them?

    I'm confused!!

It's SO easy to rip and burn DVD-5 movies...but it seems like all DVD's are DVD-9 and they take FOREVER to copy...

Yes, depending on your computer, it can take what seems like forever to do the rip, reencode, and then burn.

    Try a new computer!

    What was the error?

There is a guide to explain what vob's, ifo's and the like are. This way, at least you know you have everything.

Do you have "create Video_ts" option checked in preferences? That is helpful.

Why does it take you 4 hours to backup a dvd? That is not normal. Takes me 30 minutes to an hour and I don't have a lightning fast computer by any means. Do you include analysis in that number?

  4. But why can't I just forget about the remaining 3% and just burn the existing files using NERO?

You can. Will it play, maybe. But you lose 3% of the footage of one of the features.

You need a new computer, or a serious look at the config of your current one if it is taking 4 hours.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. You should -

IMMEDIATELY fill out your profile so the hardware specs can be analyzed.

IMMEDIATELY post the exact error message so we might have some clue what went wrong.

IMMEDIATELY start doing some reading so as to get an idea what the elementary file structure of a DVD is and what you can do with it .

IMMEDIATELY give details of what Shrink options you used so it might be guessed just what it is that you have 97% of.

The amount of time analysis and encoding takes is directly proportional to how many cycles per second your processor can do, and how big its cache is. I used to use an AMD Duron (64kb cache) rated at 850mhz, and it took as much as three hours to do a single disc. Now I have an Athlon (512kb cache) rated at 2088mhz. It takes me forty minutes at the very most. Most discs don't even take that long.

You should IMMEDIATELY get dvddecrypter and use that
to rip the DVD to your hard drive and then shrink that.
