  1. I have been backing up DVD's for quite some time (approx 800) and I have had 4 movies that will not back up. They are all from Columbia Tri Star.

They burn fine BUT the previews will all play. BUT the main movie will play up to the screen that says "The views expressed are the views of the writer and not the views of Tri Star, etc". At this point the movie will not play any further but keeps coming back to this screen over and over.

I used Instant Copy 8 first useing ANYDVD to remove copy protection.
    Same results.

Next I used DVD Shrink/burned with nero. Same results.

    Next I used ANYDVD/Nero Recode 2 . Same results.

The 4 movies are S.W.A.T , Once Upon a time in Mexico, Big Fish, and now Underworld.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is.

I think it has something to do with copy protection since the previews will play but the main movie will not play past the FBI Warning then stops at the "Not the opionon of" screen.

Thought Mr. Shrink might be looking in and help me.

  2. I had the same problem. When backing up the dvd make sure you keep all the subtitles. I noticed when when I backed up 50 First Dates that I at first took out the foreign subs. Kepts reburning, kept getting the same errors. Then I finally tried backing it up again this time keeping all the subs and it worked. Don't know if this will work for you but might be worht a shot.

Mr. Shrink works for AHEAD NERO BURN now. He won't be making any updates to DVD SHRINK. Haven't you posted this problem before? I could have sworn you did but I could be wrong. Anyway I had no problems in backing up "SWAT" & "ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO". I used DVD SHRINK version 3.05 beta and NERO BURN. If you're using the latest version of DVD SHRINK that could be the problem. Try using a older version like 3.05 beta. I see you mentioned you used INSTANT COPY and ANY DVD. Both of those programs are known to cause conflicts with other burning and dvd software. You could try and uninstall those 2 programs and use DVD SHRINK and NERO to burn. Update to the latest NERO BURN. Try ripping in FILE MODE first using DVD DECRYPTER, then use DVD SHRINK to COMPRESS & NERO to burn.

There is no new copy right encryption on TRISTAR DVD's.

Ok the secret is not to remove the other language sub's esp if the French ones are there. If u remove the other sub's then the english disclaimer will loop. Found this out trying to bkup Underworld (Tri-Star) a while back.

    Just like Kingbe14 says.

  8. dtsl06 and kingbe14,,,,,,\

    Thanks, you are correct.

I retried burning Underworld useing DVD43 and Nero Recode 2 \
I did not remove anything none of the languages etc. NOTHING. and would you believe it worked.

I am going to try to reburn the other movies that would not burn.

I tried them with all the programs that I could think of and all of them produced the same results.

Someone said some of the programs I used interferred with somne of the others. Taht is not true. I have used them for ages with no problems until I got to these 4 movies from Columbia Tri Star.

Thanks for all of your help.

    The problem is now SOLVED.....

Mr. Shrink is updating DVD Shrink. A friend of mine is Beta Testing it right now.

It will be out in a week or two and it will absolutely blow your mind.

This will be the final update and it will do dual layer DVD's

    Watch for it.

    Thanks fellows.

glad to hear you got it to work....but odd how others including myself used DVD SHRINK with no problems in burning "SWAT" but you couldn't get it to work for you. I was the one who suggested you uninstall your 2 other programs because others have posted on this forum site & at other forums that those 2 programs can cause conflicts with other software.

I use DVD REBUILDER for the dvd movies that are dual layer and are my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIES. The movies that I like so so I use DVD SHRINK. The quality of DVD REBUILDER is so much better than DVD SHRINK. I'm curious of what the newer DVD SHRINK will have to offer. DVD REBUILDER uses CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER. Long process but worth the wait because the results are stunning. Especially like the movie, "LORD OF THE RINGS RETURN OF THE KING".

  12. budz, My friend that is Beta testing the new version of Shrink (he was personally asked by Mr. Shrink to do so) told me just tonight that I would be totally pleased with the new version. He said it was much much better than the last version. He also said that compression 50% was not too good but compression less than 50% was real good.

As I've stated I only use DVD SHRINK on backup of dvd movies that I so so like. My favorite dvd movies that are in dual layer format I use DVD REBUILDER because it has stunning results and better quality compared to DVD SHRINK.

If DVD SHRINK works for you, but it didn't for 4 movies you mentioned, but it did for some others on this forum site then all the more power to you my friend. Do a search on DVD SHRINK in this forum with regard to having problems with the latest version. You'll find there are others who have had problems with it. In my own opinion there are too many variables in backing up dvds to the software and hardware you use to the brands of media and brand of dvd burner. Remember just because it may work for you, it may not work for others.

  14. budz,
You are correct in what works for some may not work for others.

My preference in backing up DVD is Recode 2. But I use Shrink, & Instant Copy 8 along with DVD Decrypter.

I am awaiting the release of the next and final version of Shrink since it will do dual layer as well.

    Computers and burners and tempermental....
