New Computer, Now Slow Burns

I previously had a P3 1ghz Sony computer running windows xp and a 2x burner with the latest firmware. It was burning at 2x (30 min).

I recently bought a P4 3.2ghz Dell computer running windows xp and the same burner. Now it is only burning at around 1.5x (40 min). What gives?

check to see that the burner is set to DMA mode. here's a guide on how to set to DMA mode using XP.

XP has a habit of changing the burner to PIO mode which will cause slow burns.

I have tried your suggestion and nothing was solved. Uninstalling and reinstalling the IDE did nothing to help. The Intel application accelerator doesn't work with my chipset. Any other suggestions?

Will changing the burner to a different IDE help? Will buying a new burner help, I was thinking of buying an 8x anyway?

What ide channel do you have your burner on? If it is the secondary, you might try moving it to the primary cable and set it as the slave with the hard drive being the master.

This worked for me and I am able to burn at 8x now. When I moved the drive, it allowed me to turn on Ultra Dma on the burner. I have it set to Ultra Dma 4. The hard drive is Ultra Dma 5

Thanks for all the help. After playing musical chairs with the drives, I finaly go the damn thing to change to DMA mode. I had to put it on the same IDE as a hard drive and make it the master.
