I've recently bought an Akai DV-R3100SS home cinema system. For a budget model it seems to work well, and I like the FM radio function.
The unit seems to get quite warm to me, and at the back there is a cooling fan in a black casing. I expected this to come on once the unit was turned on, but the UK dealers tell me that it only comes on after the unit reaches a certain temperature - although not what this temperature is. I've never known the fan to cut in.
I'm a real newbie, so it would be great if anyone else has this model and could confirm whether the fan should be on all the time or not. I'd expect the unit to get reasonably warm, but don't know if I have a problem with it or not.
Thanks.

I've never found a dealer that really knows everthing about a particular TV, Amp, Speaker, etc... call the manufacturer and talk to tech support.

itll be normal for it to be warm, even hot to touch, but not too hot.
the temps these fans kick in will be quite high, and you might not even hear it if its been slowed down.
i know mine in my tv,only comes on when i switch it to standby,my dvd recorder, when its been on for most of a 2 hour movie or been recording for a while, and my hi-fi,when its been on all day, pretty much.
