i have a movie on my pc, and im putting it on to a DVD, and i want to have it be enhanced for widescreen tvs, so the size of the video right now is height- 576, width- 845, heres a picture of what it looks like, so, what should the size of the video be to make it widescreen? like what will the height be after i cut off parts from the top and bottom? thanks

widescreen is 720(w)x576(h) for pal and 720x480 for ntsc. since urs is 845 x 576 u wont need to crop any off the top and bottom, infact ull have to add more matting, so the height will be a little bit shorter to fit on the screen. if u want it to fit on a widescreen tv without matting u'll have to crop a bit from the sides

They are anamorphic. The image has been stretched vertically to fill the whole screen. On a PC or widescreen television the image is compressed to fit the screen. Some PC software is smart enough remove the bars, even from 2.35 films. Televisions cannot do this without cropping the ends.

alright, well, i figured out how i can make it widescreen, so i tried resizing it and cutting of some of the edges in virtualdub, but when i do, the file comes out huge, the first 45 seconds is about 45 mb, and the movie is about 2 hours long, so is there any special filters or compression i can apply to make the file smaller? or is there a different program i should use?
