Hey -
Anyone succeed in ripping 2 DVD's at the same time to the same hard drive? These are dvd camcorder dvd's (no css). I tried running 2 DVD decryptor sessions, but while it was working, it was slower than ripping them seperately.
Maybe not possible or reasonable - but I have 40 of these things I need to rip (1.4 GB each) so I can edit them, and it would be easier to do two at a time.
Thanks,
E

if they're not encrypted then just a copy and paste will work, perhaps quicker than running two instances of decrypter...

...but you will gain nothing, as the HDD will have to jump and skip between the two dest files, resulting in slower process than copying them over one by one, and or badly fragmented dest files. Could work if you wrote them out to two separate physical drives tho... (two separate logical drives would eliminate the risk of fragmenting, but the jumping and skipping would still be there...)

Hello,
If you have a home network with two computers that have dvd drives just use both at the same time. Then transfer the dvd files to your editing station. I know not everybody does have a network (I don't) but if you do it might be faster.

Thanks for the input. Sort of what I thought - I think I am going to forget this until I have a computer with two physical hard drives, then try it again just to see if it will work.

40 x 1.4Gb might have put me off last week - but in the meantime, I've updated my DVD drive's firmware that has removed the <2.0x read limit.
I reckon (ignoring swapping discs over) that it would now take me about 2 hours to copy that much - and that's with decrypting via DVD Decryptor.
might be an option for you : http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

Remember that with computers it can only use one device on an IDE channel at a time. It'll be swapping back and forth. So if you have 2 hard drives on one channel and 2 optical drives on another, you'll probably not see much better results than doing them separately since it'll stream data from only one drive at a time and write to one drive at a time.

I actually tried something similiar to this once. I ripped a disk on my main PC to my second hard drive. Then at the same time on my second PC I ripped a disk to the same second hard drive on my main PC (over a network of course). The results in my case were. The ripping session on my second PC halted (literally stopped) untill my main PC was finished transfering to the hard drive, then started ripping again. So it gave me no speed increase at all.

Similar to what happened to me - there was so much thrashing of the hard drive it was pointless.

copying to the same computr over the network sounds like not such a good idea... only way to do so would be as suggested with 2 HD on two seperate cables, although i disagree about
