it uses ESS... performance is lightening fast, and of very good quality. It's definitely impressive.

  4. U would say that wouldn't you. ESS as opposed to the zoran?

  5. No progressive scan? What about MP3 playlists and/or directory browse/navigation/playback? Mixed [Mp3+jpg+misc] CD playback? How about straight MPEG2/MPEG1 file playback from a burnt DVD? Subtitle support for DivX/XviDs?

straight MPEG2/MPEG1 file playback from a burnt DVD - yes. Even .vob files and demuxed streams, although demuxed streams is pointless.

    Sushi --

    yes and yes.

    Jeerix --

the portable will probably cost $300 or so... this is because it has a hard drive built in and USB2.0 for copying media files from a disc or your computer [saves on battery life when played from a hard drive]

Our software suite is almost finished also. If any of you are familiar with Forty-Two or Gordian Knot, you are in for a real surprise!

What kind of de-interlacing does it support? Does it just read the flags for a dvd? Can you override the de-interlacing chip, and force film or video mode de-interlacing for badly flagged dvds?

  16. Also, can it convert PAL -> NTSC correctly? And is it region-free? (FYI, I don't care about Macrovision)

It can convert PAL/NTSC correctly in our tests. For the de-interlacing, we will have to check thoroughly and let you know.

Not sure about your experience with 42 or GK, but both are excellent, EXCELLENT programs.

  21. ZeroSix,

This player sounds great. Who is the manufacturer? AV Industries? and not that this is important but does it support "OGGVORBIS"?

On the players with hard drives (coming soon), can you record directly to it? or is it just for file transfering?

    Thanks,
    Tommyoz

I've never heard of Forty-Two but GORDIAN KNOT is the best way to make a DivX

I can't imagine anyone bashing GORDIAN KNOT unless they simply didn't understand it.

In the world of digital video it often takes a lot of EXPERIENCE to get things right.

You can't expect things to happen easily on the first couple of tries

    1) On the website, it says "supports divx version 3.11, 4.02 through 5.02. What about anything higher?
    2) Does it play avi encoded with DTS audio?
    3) firmware upgradeable? If so, how often will it be updated?

  26. Anyone here has ZERO support from AV industries?

I asked them how to reset the parental lock password on the unit and after FIFTEEN emails, no freakin' answer!

Tried to call but the voicemail box is full! Who whould have thought?

  27. Hey ZeroSix! Is there a region-free/macrovision hack for this? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

  28. I had my doubts from the beginning about this place. I asked some simple questions and it was like pulling teeth for an answer. That turned me off and I never looked back again until I saw this post.
